Akita Prefecture 地震風險

Akita faces the Sea of Japan, where seismic activity is lower than the Pacific side — but the Japan Sea Eastern Margin Fault Zone poses a credible M7–8 threat. The 1983 Japan Sea earthquake (M7.7) demonstrated how quickly a Sea of Japan tsunami can reach Akita's coast.

主要斷層・地震帶

The Japan Sea Eastern Margin Fault Zone runs offshore to the west of Akita. An M7.5–8 earthquake on this fault could send a tsunami reaching the Akita coastline within 30 minutes — significantly shorter warning time than Pacific-side events. The 1983 Japan Sea earthquake (M7.7) sent tsunamis exceeding 10 m to some Akita coastal locations, killing about 100 people.
