The Kii Strait lies between the Kii Peninsula and Shikoku, directly on the Nankai Trough rupture path. Earthquakes here rapidly deliver tsunami to Wakayama, Tokushima, and Hyogo coasts. Every major historical Nankai event has produced strong shaking and tsunami through this strait.
